In October 2013, a fire was started on the dam reserve of the Vanderkloof Dam which borders onto the Kammarieb Private Reserve.  This fire rapidly spread to Kammarieb as well as neighbouring farms.  The fire raged for a week before finally being brought under control.  Damage was extensive.  One of the thatched chalets was completely burnt down and large areas of the grazing and bush veld was completely destroyed.  The fire prompted a re-development of the chalets and central entertainment unit.  This development was completed in June 2015.  Luckily, the 2013/2014 rain season was a very good season which greatly assisted in the recovery of the veld.  Signs of the fire is however still clearly visible in the form of burnt out trees and bushes and will remain with us for many years.
